Presenters

Michael Stone, M.D., M.S., IFMCP

Michael Stone is a leader in the functional medicine field in the areas of developmental programming of health or disease, improving chronic disease, and encouraging chronic health and well-being. A focus of his work is the nutrition-focused physical exam. He is a writer, researcher, functional medicine educator, and mentor of undergraduate, resident, and practicing clinicians. He is co-founder and medical director of Ashland Comprehensive Family Medicine, practicing in Ashland, Oregon. Dr. Stone received undergraduate and graduate degrees in nutrition prior to receiving his medical degree from University of Washington, followed with residency and fellowship completion at UCLA Ventura and board certification in family medicine. He is faculty at the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) and received their Linus Pauling award recipient in 2019 and is an IFM Certified Practitioner.

Victoria Yunez Behm, MS, MTS, CNS, LDN

Victoria Yunez Behm is a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) and Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist. She received her undergraduate degree from Messiah University, MS in Nutrition from MUIH, and MTS from Duke University. Her work centers around how systems, people, and food intersect to create meaning, community well-being, and whole-person health. Victoria has dedicated her career to translating nutrition information for students, professionals, and the public. She brings a unique perspective on nutrition and bioethics to the table, illuminating the effects of inequitable systems on health disparities, access to food, and access to nutrition services and information for vulnerable populations.

The learner is responsible for meeting all Program prerequisites. Completion of any Program does not entitle the learner to a certification, which involves a separate application process and credential awarded with the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists.

Certification Requirements

To be eligible for the Certified Personalized Nutrition Practitioner (CPNP) credential, candidates must meet each of the following requirements:

1. Education

Degree and Training Requirements

Degree Requirement: The candidate must hold one of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in the field of nutrition, dietetics, or related health science field from a United States regionally accredited college or university, or its foreign equivalent; or
  • Master of Science or doctoral degree in health science or medicine, from a United States regionally accredited college or university, or its foreign equivalent;   

“Regionally accredited” means an institution that was accredited, at the time the degree was awarded, by a regional accreditation body in the United States which is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education. Degrees from institutions outside the U.S. must be from that country’s equivalent of a regionally accredited U.S. institution and translated. Licenses from countries outside of the U.S. must be translated and have nutrition in legal scope of practice.


Training Requirement: All candidates must have completed all three modules of the American Nutrition Association (ANA) Personalized Nutrition Practitioner Training program. Please do not apply to sit for the exam until you have completed the training program.

2.  Examination

The candidate must pass the Certification Examination for Personalized Nutrition Practitioners. 

The Certification Examination for Personalized Nutrition Practitioners is designed to test the knowledge and skills acquired by those who have successfully completed the educational requirements outlined above.  

The CPNP Exam is offered year-round and can be taken once the training is complete.

3. Experience

  • State license or certification as a healthcare practitioner in the U.S. with nutrition in legal scope of practice, including MD/DO, DC, ND, NP, PA, APRN, Pharmacists, RDN, or foreign equivalent; and

The American Nutrition Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Nutrition Association designates this enduring material for a maximum of 40 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists designates this activity for a maximum of 40 Continuing Education credits for Certified Nutrition Specialists.
